Vietnam celebrates many holidays, including traditional holidays which have been celebrated in Vietnam for thousands of years, along with modern holidays imported predominantly from western countries.
The most important  traditional holidays, which are celebrated widely,are the Lunar new year (Tet), the Mid-autumn lantern festival, Liberation Day, Labour Day, National Day, Hung Vuong Kings Commemoration Day…
Festival in Vietnam is a cultural event which is organized in the whole community. The festive and ceremonial activities have been preserved and promoted as the role of the living museums through which the typical cultural values of Vietnam have been demonstrated. Festival consists of “ritual” and “festival”. Ritual is the chain of actions and movements which symbol the respect and the honor of people towards their spirit Gods and reflect their wishes of the favored life. Festival is the cultural, religious, and artistic activities of community, which originated from their daily demand.
Statistically, there are 7,966 festivals in Vietnam. The main part of them is folklore festival, and the rest are religious, historical festival and festival from other countries. In Vietnam’s culture, festival is the specific section which is witnessed throughout the country. Some of them were born thousands of year before and still being carried on until now. Vietnam’s festival is always in the respect of God of Human of God of Natural. That is the very lofty and beautiful ideal of Vietnam’s people, which helps them remember their kin, incline to the good, and build a fruitful and happy life.
Most of the traditional festivals in Vietnam are often held in spring and autumn, the two most beautiful seasons in a year, and are the leisure time after the harvest season. In general festivals in Vietnam, people have to count on the mutual festivals which control the most families throughout the countries.
Closely related to the history, Vietnam’s traditional festival is the plentiful museum of spiritual and cultural life of Vietnam. Its pervasive power and impact are impressed into people’s mind, ideal, manner and infections of generation and generation. Besides, it also reflects the process of working and struggling of people as well as the important social events happening in Vietnam.
