HANOI – HALONG BAY
Staying in the North of Vietnam with tropical monsoon type, Hanoi has the hot summer with high rainfall (May to September) and the dry cold winter in the rest of the year. The city also receives a large amount of sunlight and a relatively high humidity all throughout the year. Hanoi still experiences all four seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter.
SPRING
Lasting from February (Lunar New Year) to April, Hanoi’s spring is humid and wet with drizzles. The average temperature normally ranges from 15 to 20 Celsius degree.
SUMMER
Hanoi’s summer is hot with the average temperature of 32 degree, lasting from May to August. Sometimes heavy rain and muggy weather are features of Hanoi’s summer.
FALL
This season is quite short, typically from middle of September to the end of November. With the average temperature is 25 degree, Hanoi’s autumn is charming with warm sunlight, cool breeze and dry atmosphere.
WINTER
Starting from December and may last until late February, with the average temperature of 17.2 degree (sometimes it may drop to below 10 degree) and the high humidity, Hanoi Winter is bitter cold.
SAPA
Staying at the place of 1500 meter higher than Hanoi, Sapa is always 9 to 10 degrees cooler than Hanoi. Thus, if you are going to visit Sapa, please kindly come back to Hanoi temperature for details.
style=”text-align: justify;”>The temperature remains stably cool throughout the year though winter may see more severe changes, with frost and even snow (mostly from mid-December to mid-January). In the winter, fog and frost often make it cold enough to keep yourself warm with rain- and wind-proof outwears
Humidity is relatively high all year round, between 83-87% and temperature ranges within 15-30 Celsius degree. If you include Sapa in your itinerary, make sure to bring some warm clothes since it can get quite cold at night (see packing tips for Sapa).
In the summer, Sapa is a popular escape destination for domestic travelers, which may hamper the authentic and original experience of the town. This high season often falls between June and August.
September is the harvesting season in Sapa so get your camera charged in full or else you will regret every single step you walk.
HUE – DANANG – HOIAN
HUE
Located in the central of Vietnam and influenced by Southwest windflow from Laos, Hue is considerably hotter than its neighbour destinations such as Da Nang and Hoi An during summer months. May to September are hottest months and the severity level can be unbearable from time to time.
From October to March, the weather cools off at the expense of frequent small rain drops. The average temperature during this period is between 20 and 30 Celsius degree.
DANANG – HOIAN
Typical for the tropical climate of Vietnam, Danang and Hoi An city possesses warm weather the whole year with its average temperature of 29 Degree Celsius. The city only has two main seasons: rainy and dry seasons instead of four seasons like in Northern Vietnam.
The heat reaches its peak on the months from June to August when the highest temperature measured during day time is 38 Degree Celsius while the lowest temperature only drops at 21 Celsius Degree at night. Winter-like weather falling in the town from November to January bring coldest days to Hoi An when daily average temperature is between 19 to 24 Degree Celsius. However, this coldness seems to be of no concern for tourists from Northern Hemisphere.
The most annoying factor in Hoi An should be its rainy season, lasting quite long from September to January. Its constantly heavy shower, which may also occur with typhoon and cause floods sometimes, can accidentally disturb your wonderful trip. During the damp season Hoi An sees a sharp decrease in the number of visitors.
On the other hand, Hoi An’s dry season from February to May is the best time to visit the town, since its weather becomes very mild and beautiful with moderate temperature, low humidity, less rain and warm sunshine. For ones who enjoy sunbathing on famous beaches near Hoi An like Cua Dai Beach or An Bang Beach, delaying your trip to the end of May or beginning of June is recommended.
If you are lucky enough to arrive at the town on the 14th day of a lunar month, Hoi An will be much more charming with its Full Moon Festival and “Old Street Night” exclusively available on that day.
SAIGON – HO CHI MINH CITY
It can be said that anytime in a year is a good time to visit Ho Chi Minh City. Once called The ASIA PEARL, Ho Chi Minh City is famous for its pleasant climate and rarely suffer from natural disasters like the Central or Northern Vietnam (see the weather comparison chart).
With a tropical climate of 2 distinctive seasons: dry (starting from December and lasting until April) is known to be the hottest, with average temperature of 28 °C (82 °F). The peak is 39 °C (102 °F) around noon time in late April, while the lowest may fall below 16 °C (61 °F) in the early mornings of late December. Humidity is moderate in December and begins to decrease from January to April. Hence, if travelling during this period, foreign travelers can escape from the normal sticky weather of Saigon.
Although dry season tends to be the popular choice, rainy season still has its advantages, considering that this city is endowed with a rare nice climate. It often has short day time rains that clear as quickly as they come, and give space for even more sun.
Have a enjoyable Vietnam Tour!
